What would you do if you could leap from building to building in a single bound? What could you do if you shoot laser beams out from your eyes? What should you do if you could read people’s minds or move objects with yours? What would you ever do with all that power? All the world in the palm of your hand.
I finally understand why God didn’t give us wings.
I finally understand why man has no fins, no googly telescopic eyes, no amazing abiilty to jump higher than the tallest buildings or run faster than a speeding bullet or stick to walls or…well…do all the things we have fantasized in the stories we tell. The answer is so simple really, I wonder why many of us missed it in the first place.
We’re meant to do that on our own.
It’s so simple to be born with skills we would call superhuman. It would be so much easier if we could just fly or breath underwater on our own. But no…we do not have that because life wouldn’t have meaning without the limitations to surpass. Life would be devoid of purpose should we be born without the challenges and obsticles that litter our brief existence. We are here armed with nothing, not even claws or fangs against a world born out fire and conflict. Armed with nothing except for one thing.
That’s why we can’t become invisible, grow stretchy limbs or have skin made of rocks. Every thing we’re supposed to pass. Every hurdle we have to jump over makes whatever we do worth it in the end. It doesn’t matter if we cannot soar high above the clouds. We did that in the end. It doesn’t matter that we cannot dive the the abyssmal depths of the oceans. We did that in the end. No matter what abilities we lack. In the end, it doesn’t matter.
We’ll get where when we want to.
So as much as I wish I could fly among the stars feeling free in the vast emptiness of space surrounded by the twilight of history. I can’t. Not yet. There will come a time when we will be able do that. When all of us will reach out and touch the face of God and laugh in the power that is infinite. That time will come.
We may not have our wings.
But we will always have our dreams.
In the end…we will always turn it into reality.
