The Return of Noodle Posts

Over a year a go, I wrote a post about one of the more frequent sins of blogging, which I commonly referred to as "Noodle Posts". Noodle posts are to my definition, blog post that explain to you nothing but the literal day itself. Blogs that go about something like this:

I had noodles for lunch today. It was good. I like noodles. Then I got up and blogged about it. So here I am.

Normally coining a term like that would just fade away in time, lost to the sea of technological buzzwords, more so when you don't use it enough by itself. But it turns out that a recent number of blogs have been using the phrase as it is. Not bad for a phrase that came up after two seconds of thought.

Then again, that doesn't mean that it's the end of that. There are still a shitload of noodle posting blogs out there, not surprisingly a lot of them are in MySpace which does spell quite a few things.

  1. MySpace really is full of crap.
  2. Lot's of people have no sense of creativity whatsoever.
  3. There are a lot of people who are going to kill blogging for themselves.

And I'm being serious when I do make those points. Noodle posting while completely normal when you first start blogging, will eventually wear out if you don't have the creativity to put things into perspective. There is a lot to be said for blogs that constantly put am objective record about their day. Boredom is one of them. Lack of ingenuity is another. If there is anything to say about taking your blog past 3-6 months from the start of it, I'd have to say that being creative tops the list. Without it, you're just being repetitive and then you can kiss your readers and your blogging spirit goodbye.

That being said, there are noodle posting blogs out there that are surprisingly good. Lainie just happens to be one such blogger. Maybe it's the way she defines herself, maybe its the length in which she writes giving us the impression that for her day, there is just a lot to live for, or maybe she's just the kind of crazy that we can love.

Either way, I wouldn't mind the term "Noodle Posts" to be placed up there along with the classic terms like "blogosphere" or "splogs". It would be really cool to know you coined something that's used throughout the blogosphere by so many people. But then that's just me, and I'm known for that. After all, wouldn't you?
