I think the lesson here is:

"If you ever want to fiddle around with your domain name server, make sure you actually have all the details first before you proceed and make sure you have full access to everything before you proceed. Better yet, don't touch anything even though it's a little broke until everything and everyone that matters to correct the situation has your full and undivided attention."

Otherwise you're going to have very little hair left and a whole lot of holes in the wall for no good reason, which isn't exactly the right kind of change you had in mind from the beginning.
