The Mystery of Wordpress.com

I woke up this morning to log into my Wordpress.com blog only to find out that they have added something a little new…something that is one of the most talked about mystery among the Wordpress.com users…at least among the more savvy users. So it begs the question.

What the heck is that API key there for anyway?

Matt's not saying anything and as far as it goes, all the guesses from other people have been far from it. Me, I haven't the slightest clue of what an API actually does but as far as my best guess is concerned, it would have to be something to do with identifying something for…something. Damned if I knew what that something was anyway.

What caught my eye more along with the API keys is the fact that I see a brand new spanking "Import" tab in my Wordpress.com Admin. One that happily says one thing so far "Import posts and comments from a Blogger account". Things are just starting to come together now aren't they? It gives a reason for Blogger users to migrate their blogs over to Wordpress.com without much problems at all. I know it gives you that reason to.

I wonder if those API keys are related to the Blogger Import. I wonder if anyone else who reads this blog would wonder as much as I do? I wonder if should get out of bed now and brush my teeth? So many questions, so little answers.

Update: Well for those of you who still have problems trying to find where the Import Blogger button is, I have taken the liberty to give you a screenshot here for simplicity purposes .

I am certainly wondering for sure, although I do not have Wordpress.com. I may not be as Wordpress savvy but I do know what I do have and do not. Wordpress.com seems to have almost everything..are they still doing invites?

Oh and you get out of bed, because I’m getting back in. :D

Yes they are still doing invites. They will always do that. Wordpress.com is going to be invite only. Keeps the number of spam blogs to minimum.

It’s right there at your Admin after Options. How could you miss it?

If Dusty already hasn’t told you. It’s in my nature to know things. :) Especially when they concern things I already know. You know?

Meh… I meant about the WP creators realising the lame excuses some of us put up with to avoid switching. :p

What makes you think I didn’t tell them about your excuses concerns. :) Nah…it’s been in development for a while. Just a natural progession of things for Wordpress anyway. :)

I’m struggling to figure out how to migrate my WP blog from my own host to my wordpress.com blog… there don’t seem to be any import options at all, any more.

    Any ideas?

As far as I know, they took the Import because they were testing it for the standalone version of Wordpress, whether they will puti t back again now. I can’t say for sure. But then again, it’s not quote complete so check back every now and again. It might be back later.
